Option 4: Make a Gift of Stock
Through DREAM's partnership with the Vermont Community Foundation we can accept gifts of appreciated securities. These gifts of stock have tax advantages for the donor. The capital gains tax that would apply if you sold the shares yourself is avoided, and income taxes are reduced by the full market value of the shares on the day they are gifted to the DREAM Program. This enables many donors who have made gains in the stock market to make a larger gift at a lower cost than an outright contribution and clear their portfolios of highly appreciated, low income producing assets. Contact Michael Loner at mloner@dreamprogram.org or (802) 338-8979 for information on how to make a gift of stock.
