Summer Enrichment
Combating the Summer Developmental Slide
We believe that summers are a crucial time to develop meaningful relationships and to grow through play! DREAM runs a day enrichment camp in each of the neighborhoods we serve, focusing on four developmental objectives, supported by research, that will help reverse the summer slide and yield significant long-term benefits.
Our Learning Objectives
1. Building Competent Readers
We provide daily access to books and involve DREAMers in what they're reading. This might mean a group reading session where they share story predictions, or tying the book to a craft, game, or mini adventure! Our goal is to make reading a blast and spark a lifelong love for books.
2. Fostering Problem Solvers
We facilitate creative play challenges that promote problem-solving through imagination. DREAMers learn to identify problems, break them into manageable parts, and implement solutions. Group debriefs follow to reinforce these skills, empowering DREAMers to confidently tackle any challenge!
3. Inspiring Artists and Creators
Each summer, we inspire our DREAMers to explore their imaginations! We provide various outlets for creativity and connect art projects with community needs. Need a mural? We'd love to help! From large projects to intricate pieces, we empower DREAMers to share and be recognized for their creations.
4. Boosting Healthy Minds and Bodies
We prioritize daily activities like yoga, sports, and gardening to foster mental, physical, and environmental awareness. We also offer healthy snacks and connect with mutual aid groups. DREAMers explore garden-to-plate connections and visit community gardens whenever possible.
