Afterschool Enrichment
Ensuring Post-Secondary Success
Our Afterschool Enrichment program begins with a simple yet powerful philosophy: Learning Through Doing. From an early age, DREAM mentees embark on a journey of discovery and growth, guided by dedicated mentors and supportive community. Our approach ensures every mentee has the tools and support needed to achieve post-secondary success.
Early Foundations: Building Academic Skills
Starting at age 5, DREAM mentees dive into their educational journey, building strong reading and studying skills. Through one-on-one and group mentoring activities, they develop a love for learning that sets the stage for future success.
Holistic Support: A Community Effort
DREAM mentors and staff team up with families and mentees to understand their academic goals. This collaboration creates a supportive community around each mentee, ensuring they have access to the resources they need. Our support includes:
Homework Help
Personalized academic assistance
Group Reading Sessions
Sparking a love for books
Educational Trips
Adventures to museums and cultural sites that make learning fun
Experiential Learning: Bringing Lessons to Life
At DREAM, we believe learning is most effective when it’s active and engaging. Every activity teaches valuable skills in a fun and memorable way:
Team Building Exercises
Developing social skills and teamwork
Science Experiments
Hands-on learning that sparks curiosity
Community Garden Projects
Practical lessons in environmental science
Preparing for the Future: College and Beyond
As our mentees move through middle and high school, we focus on preparing them for higher education. This includes:
Local College Tours
Introducing mentees to nearby colleges
Extended College Road Trips
Exploring institutions across the country
Career Fairs
Showing mentees various career paths
Our mentors work tirelessly to assist with college applications, ensuring each mentee has a clear path to their future. To further support this goal, DREAM is launching a scholarship program to help close the tuition gap for our mentees after high school.
A Reciprocal Learning Experience
Inspired by the Montessori method, our program emphasizes mutual learning. Mentors and mentees grow together, bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the table. This reciprocal relationship makes DREAM a dynamic and inclusive environment for all.
Making Learning Enjoyable
Our mentors are some of the most creative and compassionate individuals around. They design activities that blend fun with education seamlessly:
Gardening and Harvesting
Learning about plants with local gardeners
Science of Cooking
Exploring chemistry through baking
By integrating learning into every activity, we ensure that our mentees are constantly engaged and excited about their education.
